Terms of use
Last updated: October 5, 2026
By using Chickens & Coops (“the site”), published by Iron Mako Media, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
1. What this site is
Chickens & Coops publishes editorial analysis of backyard poultry equipment based on published extension guidance, manufacturers’ published specifications and live retail pricing. It is an information and opinion site. It is not a retailer, a manufacturer, a repair service, or a professional advisory service of any kind.
2. No testing claim
We do not operate a test laboratory and we do not own the products we write about. Scores and verdicts are editorial assessments of published specifications against a stated rubric. Nothing on this site should be read as a claim of hands-on testing.
3. Accuracy and specifications
We take care to report specifications accurately and to cite their source, and where a manufacturer does not publish a figure we say so rather than estimating. Even so, manufacturers change specifications without notice, listings contain errors, and models are superseded. Always verify critical specifications — particularly weight capacity, dimensions and electrical requirements — with the manufacturer or retailer before purchasing.
4. Prices
Prices shown are retrieved from a live retail data feed and carry the date they were last verified. They may be out of date, wrong, or differ by region or seller. The price shown by the retailer at checkout is the only authoritative price. Prices older than 48 hours are suppressed automatically.
5. Affiliate links
The site contains affiliate links and we may earn a commission on qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you. See our affiliate disclosure for the full statement. Any purchase you make is a contract between you and the retailer; we are not a party to it and have no control over fulfillment, returns or warranty.
6. No veterinary, medical or professional advice
Content on this site is general information about keeping backyard poultry. It is not veterinary advice and not medical advice, and it is not a substitute for consultation with a qualified professional. Where we describe published public-health guidance from CDC or USDA APHIS we summarize it and link to the original; that is a different thing from advising you.
For a sick or injured bird, consult a veterinarian with poultry experience or your state extension service. USDA asks that signs of avian influenza be reported immediately on 1-866-536-7593 or to your State veterinarian. For human illness, consult a clinician and tell them there is contact with backyard poultry, because it changes what they test for.
Electrical content — heated waterers, coop heaters, automatic doors — is general guidance only. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions, use outdoor-rated cable on a GFCI-protected circuit, and use a qualified electrician for any permanent installation or fault. Local ordinances and homeowners’ association rules on keeping poultry are your responsibility to check.
7. Third-party links
We link to manufacturers, retailers and published reference sources. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability or practices.
8. Intellectual property
The text, structure, rubric and original graphics on this site are the property of Iron Mako Media. You may quote short extracts with attribution and a link. You may not reproduce substantial portions, or scrape the site to train or populate a competing product or content database, without written permission. Product images are supplied by the retailer’s API under its terms and remain the property of their respective owners. Trademarks and product names belong to their respective owners and are used for identification only.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
The site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any specification, price or recommendation is accurate or current.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Iron Mako Media shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential or special damages arising from your use of the site or from any purchase made in reliance on it, including dissatisfaction with a product, loss of or injury to livestock, fire or property damage. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this clause may not apply to you.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top reflects the current version, and continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which Iron Mako Media is established, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
