Privacy policy

Chickens & Coops (“we”) is published by Iron Mako Media. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. We have tried to write it in plain English rather than padding it out.

What we collect

Information you give us

If you use the contact form, we receive your name, email address, chosen topic and message. We use these only to reply to you and, where you report an error, to correct the site. We do not add you to a mailing list — we do not operate one.

Information collected automatically

• Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and which links are clicked. This sets cookies and collects an approximate location, device type, browser, referring page and the pages you visit. We have no interest in identifying individuals and do not attempt to.
• Affiliate click events. When you click a buy link we record that a click happened on that page, so we can see which recommendations readers find useful.
• Server logs. Our hosting provider records standard request logs including IP address, for security and abuse prevention.
• Contact form rate limiting. We hold your IP address in memory for up to one hour to limit submissions to five per hour. It is never written to disk.

What we do not do

• We do not sell your personal information.
• We do not run a newsletter or add you to any list.
• We do not run advertising networks or retargeting pixels.
• We do not require an account, and we store no passwords.
• We do not use a captcha service, so no captcha vendor profiles you here.

Third parties

• Google Analytics — analytics. See Google’s privacy policy.
• Amazon — when you follow a buy link, Amazon sets its own cookies and applies its own privacy policy. We receive aggregate commission reporting, not your identity or order details.
• Microsoft (Graph) — delivers contact form emails to our inbox.
• Our hosting provider — serves the site and keeps request logs.

Cookies

We set no cookies of our own. Cookies on this site come from Google Analytics, and Amazon sets cookies on its own domain after you follow a buy link. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site works normally without them.

How long we keep things

• Contact form emails: kept in our inbox while the matter is open, then deleted periodically.
• Analytics data: per Google Analytics retention settings.
• Rate-limiting IP records: up to one hour, in memory only.
• Server logs: per our hosting provider’s retention period.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you, and to object to certain processing. California residents have specific rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know and the right to delete. We do not sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of in that respect.

To exercise any right, email contact@chickensandcoops.com. In practice the only personal data we are likely to hold is an email you sent us.

Opting out of analytics

You can install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, enable your browser’s tracking protection, or block the analytics domain. None of this affects the site’s functionality.

Children

This site is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the revised policy.
